CameraAlert

Android Privacy Policy

Effective September 14, 2026. Contact: infocontractorai@gmail.com. This notice applies to the native CameraAlert community Android app, not the separate browser app.

Location and Drive Mode

CameraAlert uses precise location to calculate distance and direction to documented camera locations. Drive Mode starts when you press Start and continues through a location foreground service, including while the app is minimized or the screen is off. An ongoing notification provides a Stop action. The app does not store continuous GPS tracks or automatically upload route history. After you allow precise location, CameraAlert also requests a fresh position when you open or return to the app. Only the latest position and its timestamp are saved privately on your phone to restore the map while GPS updates; this saved position is not used for driving alerts. Delete saved data in CameraAlert settings or clear Android app storage to remove it. You can stop Drive Mode or revoke location permission in Android settings.

Optional regional downloads

If you choose Download my region, the app sends your location rounded to 0.1 degree and a 25 km search radius to overpass-api.de. That service also receives ordinary connection information, such as your IP address. Downloads do not run automatically while driving. Included or imported camera records can be used without this request.

Optional online maps

Online street tiles are enabled by default and can be switched off. While enabled, requests to tile.openstreetmap.org reveal the viewed geographic area and normal connection information, including your IP address. Detailed map views may indicate a precise area. Camera markers and Leaflet program files stay locally available. Street tiles are not bulk-downloaded. Source links open in your browser under its own and the destination website's policies.

Driving map

Version 1.2.7 keeps Drive Mode inside CameraAlert using OpenStreetMap. It does not open an external navigation app. Online tiles share your IP address and viewed map area with OpenStreetMap.

Speech and device services

The app uses an installed offline English text-to-speech voice. If none is available, it shows a status message rather than silently selecting network speech. Android and Google Play services provide system location functionality under their respective settings and policies. CameraAlert includes no advertising, analytics, billing or crash-reporting SDK. It does not access your camera, microphone, contacts, messages or call history.

Reports and exports

Reports contain descriptions and coordinates you enter and remain on your phone. They are not submitted automatically. Export uses Android's document picker; a cloud destination you select may receive the file. Avoid including unnecessary personal information. CameraAlert does not create user accounts or publish a public report feed.

Storage, deletion and security

Saved cameras, reports and preferences remain in local app storage until deleted or cleared. Settings provides Delete saved cameras and reports. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes app-held information. Exported files must be deleted separately. Android backup and device transfer are disabled for app data. App network requests use HTTPS. Third-party services control their own retention and connection logs.

Camera information

The included snapshot comes from OpenStreetMap contributors under ODbL. Records may be incomplete or outdated and are not independently verified. CameraAlert does not access camera video or electronically detect unlisted cameras.
